Portrait again

Decided just to keep going with this one. Yeah she looks sad, but oh well. Since my colors are always so browned or grayed out, this time I tried to overshoot the intensity. How's that left eye?

This is very beautiful. I really enjoy the subtle value and color shifts and the modeling is really good, however I think some of it may be over-modeled. I think the right side of her face has too much modeling so the bag under her eye is emphasized and her cheek looks swollen and droopy. I think this is just because of those shadows are emphasized. Even if they look like that in the photo, I think toning it down would look better since it's a little girl.

the lit value on her left cheek is competing with her right cheek. try knocking it back to remove that droopy look.

great start. like the colors, more vibrant than usual for you, the warmness is really helping it pop off the cool under-painting. try to keep that dynamic.

in line with what Michelle said, 'overt details on the face' = 'looks old.' i think that because the mark making is a bit scrubby it accentuates what are reading like creases and wrinkles because it's introducing character. and i think it's the saturated pink on the bottom of her left cheek that is making it sink like a fat jowl, i'd tone it down.

i don't think the value on the her left cheek is distracting, it's the sharp shadow under her eye. it looks like a cast shadow because it doesn't emphasis the form of the surface. i'd soften it up to smooth things out.

also, (this is nit-picky, but this is a really great start!) the value on her forehead isn't consistent with the light hitting her upper cheek and inner bridge of the nose; it needs to be bit lighter.
