Portraits


Doing these of my kids today. I have another one of my son I'll post later today. Hopefully finish in the next couple of days

lighting setup looks good. although, it's probably a little bright on the collar of the shirt and shoulder.

also, be careful of the front to back spatial relationships, so that the highlight at the rear of the cheek in front of the ear isn't as bright as the inside bridge of the nose or front corner of the temple (wherever your strongest hits will be).

what were your thoughts on the composition? it definitely has that classicist look to it, but it also reads as melancholy or sad. warm colors might combat that, but she is so low in the frame in addition to the down cast eyes and countenance.

Right about the highlights, this is just a rough value sketch.

Didn't think much about comp; I try not to, though that slash in the back stole from Giuseppe Ribera. He uses it all the time in portraits; it's a simple thing to do that I find pops a mundane comp out.
