This is an underpainting w/ some drawing issues on the left side which I'm aware of. Any suggestions for a palette on this piece? I did this b/c I was struggling to figure the mixing out. I left out the insulators on purpose also.
As far as general stuff, I would pay special attention to the texture in this piece, as well as the warm and cool tones. ie. The dog is warm, the barrel is cool. I know, obvious, but just illustrating a point, I guess.
And just some drawing bits: it could be just me, but the painting feels a little more "scruntched" vertical-wise than the original image, like the dog's missing a some area on its chest and legs. The scrunchy-ness doesn't really bother me too much on the dog, but it does on the barrel. So much that the barrel doesn't look believably barrel-like...plus, the top two rungs on the barrel look a little...not-parallel.
I LOVE how you've drawn out the dog though. You can see all the texture happening already!
So I don't know why I did this, but I drew the dog roughly the same width (as in the photo) but didn't draw the barrel the same width and then it got all outta control. I've decided if I return to this piece to address the drawing issues. Thanks for pointing out the chest and leg areas to me. They are a little squashed.
