Magic Circle

Man, it's hard to get the colors right on blogger.

This is a little 9x7. I really like working in this size. The last one I posted is still in progress, and not going extremely well, though I've figured one thing is clear: I really like working right on the wood. This one is just the panel with several layers on polyurethane. I really liked working on this one and I think its the biggest success I've had in paint in a while.

it looks good. i love the back ground! and the texture. if it were me i would maybe grey down the yellow in the skull, you could probably get away with just glazing a blue purple over the top of the skull. and maybe glaze asphaltum over the background to balance the colors. but i like grey's so that's completely an opinion.
question what polyurethane and how do you use it?

i really like the texture around the edges from the wood panel, definitely nails down your aesthetic.

The warm cool really makes it pop. But Darci might be right in toning it down just a little? The only part that this seems off to me is the reflective light (blue under the jaw and horn). Especially the corner of the jaw. The temperature change seems a little strong is all. The blue feels too saturated maybe a titch to high in value.

I agree with you the painting is a success. Your textures are always strong, as is your drawing. The marks defining the plane changes in the skull are where I think you stepped it up.
