I was in the zone last night, so I finished it up. I added the shaving cream today; that was Shanell's insistence.
There is some glare on the left side; you can see more brushstroke than what's there. It looks ok, but I think without the glare it looks better.
I was really trying to experiment with shadow temperature on the cloth; tell me what you guys think.

this is really good man! i think there is a really good balance overall. the background texture plays well off of the wood.
shadow temperature on the cloth looks really nice. a white cloth was a good choice to really punch in that color with.
i think my favorite moment is the reflection of the shaving brush in the cup. for some reason it really sticks out now and draws attention. probably a texture contrast things. but it really sells the spatial relationships and give a little zazz to the setup of ht objects.
and green liquid. great move. wonderful addition of some lively color to break up the grays and tans.
This is looking great for the guy who says he can't paint. I completely disagree. I think you've pulled this one off quite well. Great suggestions and insight from Geoff and Darci. The surface qualities are great.
it looks great! i could drag my comment out, but i think geoff and brandt did a good job of saying what i would have said.
ok, i'm sorry...i have one more comment. i had this open and had the top of the painting covered with another window, and i think it could be stronger if you crop off part of the negative space at the top. it's a lot more intimate, and there is less room to get lost. just a thought.
